Food against intestinal polyps

Consumption of legumes, vegetables, dried fruits and brown rice reduces the risk of intestinal polyps, published in the journal Nutrition and Cancer. Bowel cancer is the third most common form of cancer in men and women, and the precursors of the intestinal polyps.

The authors found that consuming legumes at least 3 times a week and brown rice once a week reduced the risk of intestinal polyps in 33-40%, and cooked green vegetables and dried fruits also contribute to better protection, especially due to high content of dietary fibers that are known to anticancer have effect.

We analyzed data on dietary habits of 2818 patients during 26 years, and after this period 441 patients were found intestinal and / or rectal polyps. The results show that intake of cooked green vegetables once a day or more reduces the risk of polyps by 24%, when compared to foods entered less than 5 times a week. Also, it appears that dried fruit consumed three times a week reduces the same risk by 26%.
